Best Bone Broth FAQ

Bone Broth Basics

Thousands of years ago, our hunter-gatherer ancestors realised they were onto a good thing: bone broth. Since then, humans from cultures worldwide have believed in the enormous health benefits of bone broth.

Bone broth is produced simply by simmering animal bones and combining herbs, spices and occasionally vegetables to create a delicious, salty broth. It can then be consumed as a beverage or as a base for soups and stews. While our bone broth is made solely from the bones of premium, grass-fed Australian and New Zealand cattle, it can be made from most animal bones, such as lamb or chicken bones.

Not only is bone broth delicious but is also bursting with nutrients. We like to think of it as wellness in a cup!

Bone broth is abundant in valuable minerals that your body can easily absorb. One cup of our bone broth is rich in glucosamine, chondroitin sulphate, collagen and 18 amino acids not found in most of the muscle meat we consume.

Bone broth will:

Improve digestive and gut health

- Calm arthritis and joint pain

- Strengthen skin and reduce wrinkles

- Build strong muscles and bones

- Improve overall wellness

Forget the latest health fad. Trust in thousands of years of tradition.

Our bone broth tastes like beef broth except with a deeper, richer flavour. Of course, it also depends on which flavoured bone broth you choose — we offer bone broth infused with Garlic & Herbs (oregano, basil, onion and garlic), Turmeric, and Mushrooms (reishi, shiitake and lion’s mane).

Best Bone Broth is made by simmering the bones of grass-fed beef for over 48 hours, and then we take the extra time and care to infuse delicious herbs and spices. This produces a broth that we send all over the world.

A bottle of Best Bone Broth contains 25 to 35 servings. Once the bottle has been opened, it can last up to six weeks if properly stored. Taking care of your bone broth is simple — just store it in the refrigerator or freezer.

All of our products are made from premium, grass-fed cattle that are hormone and antibiotic-free. Simply, happy cows equal a high-quality product.

Yes, bone broth is perfectly safe to consume while pregnant or breastfeeding. In fact, bone broth is a great source of nutrients that can benefit both mother and child. Some of the nutrients found in bone broth include calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, collagen, gelatin, and amino acids. These nutrients are all important for bone and joint health, skin health, gut health and more.

So if you're looking for nutrient-rich food to add to your diet during pregnancy or breastfeeding, bone broth is a great option! Just make sure to discuss bone broth with your doctor before adding it to your diet.

No, bone broth is not recommended for babies. The sodium content can be dangerous for their developing kidneys. Talk to your pediatrician about safe options if you want to give your baby any bone broth-type food.

There are a few people who should avoid bone broth. Those with autoimmune disorders or osteoporosis should speak to their doctor before consuming bone broth because it contains compounds that can aggravate these conditions. If you are unsure whether bone broth is right for you, please consult your healthcare professional.

All our products come in a BPA-free, type-2 plastic bottle made from HDPE plastic.

It depends on what you’re looking to achieve. For example, if you want to lose weight, we recommend opting for two to four cups daily. If you’re looking to train hard and build muscle, you will need a high protein diet, so we recommend three or four cups of bone broth soup daily alongside other high protein foods, healthy fats and fibre.

If you’re on a diet, you’ll notice the effects almost instantly — bone broth is high in protein and will reduce hunger pangs and your calorie intake. If you aim to strengthen your hair, skin and nails, you will see the difference in three to six weeks of consuming bone broth daily.

Yes! To lose weight, you should plan a protein intake of between 1.6 and 2.2 grams of protein per kilogram per day. If you’re an athlete or perform high-intensity training for weight loss, you will need between 2.2 and 3.4 grams per kilogram per day. Bone broth liquid or powder can be a good supplement to protein-rich meals.

Plus, bone broth is naturally high in protein, meaning you can eliminate hunger pangs and lower your daily calorie intake.

Yes, bone broth is good for your skin! The collagen in bone broth can help to improve skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Bone broth is also a great source of minerals like calcium, magnesium and phosphorus, which are essential for healthy skin.

Of course! However, it is a long and arduous process that few have time for. It takes 48 hours or more to simmer the bovine bones and connective tissue into a broth — we’ve done the hard work to eliminate this long process, so you can start enjoying the benefits of bone broth without the effort. Just add a couple of teaspoons of bone broth to hot water, stir and sip — it’s as simple as that!

Bone broth is made by simmering bones in water for an extended period of time, often with the addition of vinegar or other acidic ingredients. This process breaks down the collagen and other nutrients in the bone, making them more easily absorbed by the body.

On the other hand, stock is typically made by simmering meat and vegetables in water. While stock also contains some nutrients from the bones, it does not have as many health benefits as bone broth.

In addition to being consumed as a healthy hot drink, bone broth can also be used as a base for soups and stews, as a cooking liquid for rice, quinoa and other grains, or used to braise meats and vegetables. Bone broth is also a great way to add extra flavour and nutrition to your favourite recipes like curries, pies or sauces like gravy.

Making Bone Broth

There’s no “wrong” way to enjoy bone broth! You can use bone broth to create delicious and nutritious soups, stews and sauces, or add it to your favourite recipes like bolognese, pasta bakes, curries and homemade ramen. Alternatively, you can simply dissolve a teaspoon (or two) of bone broth in a cup of warm water for a hearty, nutrient-dense broth.

Yes, the broth turns milky white when you add water. This is normal as we use salt as a natural preservative which turns the broth white.

You can enhance the flavour of our bone broth even more with ingredients like onion, celery, leek, carrot, salt and pepper, parsley and sage, rosemary, thyme, bay leaves, ginger, garlic and red pepper flakes.

We personally love using our beef bone broth as stock in soups and stews!

You can have bone broth whenever you like! However, there are some known benefits to drinking a cup of bone broth on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. This is when your body is feeling its best and will easily absorb all the nutrients in bone broth. Likewise, a warm cup of bone broth before bed can help you fall asleep — glycine, one of the amino acids in bone broth, helps lower your body temperature and prepare your body for sleep.

Bone Broth for Pets

Absolutely. Bone broth is highly nutritious for humans, cats and dogs alike. Bone broth is packed with essential vitamins and minerals and is a great source of protein, collagen, glycine and glucosamine, all designed to support your pet’s immune system and overall health.

We recommend opting for our Plain Beef, Mushroom or Turmeric flavours, as our Garlic & Herb Bone Broth is unsuitable for pets.

We recommend keeping their portion size small. Add one or two teaspoons of bone broth to their food at first — if they like the taste, you can increase their intake over a few days.

We recommend adding a teaspoon or two to their food (wet or dry). Alternatively, you can add a teaspoon of bone broth to their water bowl to encourage them to drink more and stay hydrated. In summer, try freezing bone broth into ice cubes and add them to their water to cool it down, or let them lick the ice cube instead!

You can give bone broth to your pet, either hot or cold. However, cats and dogs are natural hunters, so we recommend heating up the bone broth to body temperature if they’re a bit picky.
