Bone broth tastes like a richer, deeper version of beef broth. It is savoury, meaty and a little salty, and not sweet. Ours is made from bones slow-cooked for 48 hours, then concentrated (reduced down, so a small spoonful makes a full cup). Stir a teaspoon into a 250ml cup of hot water for a full, warming mug.

Try Original Beef Bone Broth

"Excellent! Tasty and easy to prepare" - Nilmini Francis, published review on the 350g Original Beef page

Why does bone broth taste richer than stock?

Bones are simmered for many hours, which draws out the flavour of the meat and the gelatine from the bones. Gelatine is the protein that makes a broth set to a jelly when it is cold. A 48-hour cook plus concentrating is hard to do at home.

What does Original Beef taste like?

Original Beef is just beef and evaporated sea salt, so the taste is beef first, then salt. It is the one to start with if you want to know what bone broth tastes like with nothing added. The cattle are 100% grass-fed, from Australia and New Zealand, and the broth is made in Queensland.

What do the other flavours taste like?

  • Garlic & Herb: the same beef base with oregano, basil, onion and garlic.
  • Turmeric: the beef base with turmeric added.
  • Mushroom: beef broth with reishi, shiitake and lion’s mane mushrooms.

You can compare them all in our bone broth collection.

How do I make bone broth taste better?

Start with the amount. Use 1 teaspoon of concentrate to a 250ml cup of hot water for a lighter sip, or 2 teaspoons for a stronger cup. Then add what you would add to a soup:

  • A pinch of black pepper or a squeeze of lemon.
  • A little fresh ginger or garlic.
  • Chopped spring onion or herbs on top.
  • A splash more hot water if it tastes too strong.

Saul, our founder: "Mostly a mug in the morning but I also use it for adding protein to my rice or as part of a stir-fry". If you want to cook with it, see how to use bone broth concentrate and our recipes.

FAQ

What does bone broth taste like?

It tastes like a richer, deeper beef broth, savoury and meaty with a little salt. Flavoured versions, such as Garlic & Herb, Turmeric or Mushroom, add their own notes on top of the beef base, so the one you choose changes the cup.

Does bone broth taste bad?

It tastes like a savoury soup base. If the first cup is too strong, use 1 teaspoon of concentrate to 250ml of hot water instead of 2. You can also add black pepper, a squeeze of lemon or some chopped herbs to suit your own taste.

Does Original Beef taste salty?

A little, yes. Original Beef is made from beef and evaporated sea salt, so you will taste salt along with the beef. If it tastes too salty for you, add a splash more hot water.

Can I drink bone broth on its own?

Yes. Stir 1 to 2 teaspoons of concentrate into a 250ml cup of hot water and sip it like any hot drink. You can also use it in soups, rice and stir-fries.

Which flavour should I try first?

Original Beef is the best place to start because it shows you the taste of the broth with nothing else added. If you like savoury flavours, Garlic & Herb, with oregano, basil, onion and garlic, is a good second one to try.

What if I buy it and do not like the taste?

If you do not like it within 30 days, message us and we will refund your money. You do not need to send it back.
