You bought bone broth concentrate. Now you want to know how long it lasts and where to keep it.
The answer depends on whether the bottle is opened or sealed, and whether you have a concentrate or a liquid broth. This guide covers both, with specific guidance for our concentrate bottles.
Before opening: shelf stable
Unopened bottles of Best Bone Broth concentrate are shelf stable. Keep them in a cool, dry cupboard away from direct sunlight. No refrigeration needed until you open the seal.
The best-before date is printed on each bottle. The concentrate maintains full flavour and nutritional quality up to that date when stored correctly.
After opening: refrigerate and use within 8 weeks
Once opened, keep the bottle in the fridge. The concentrate stays good for approximately 8 weeks refrigerated after opening.
A few practical tips:
- Give the bottle a shake before each use. The natural ingredients can settle.
- Always use a clean spoon. Introducing other food or bacteria shortens the shelf life.
- Screw the cap back tightly after each serving.
Can you freeze bone broth concentrate?
Yes. If you will not finish a bottle within 8 weeks, you can freeze it.
Pour the concentrate into ice cube trays or small containers before freezing. This lets you thaw only what you need. One ice cube is roughly one serving depending on your tray size.
Thaw frozen portions in the fridge overnight. Do not refreeze once thawed.
How to tell if bone broth has gone off
Trust your senses. Signs that bone broth concentrate has spoiled include:
- A sour or rancid smell that is different from the normal savoury aroma.
- Visible mould on the surface or around the cap.
- A fermented or fizzy taste.
- A significant change in texture, such as separation that does not recombine when shaken.
If in doubt, throw it out. Bone broth is a natural product without preservatives, so proper storage matters.
Serving size and storage math
Our 350g bottles contain 35 servings, which is 5 weeks at one serving per day. The larger 375g format contains 37 servings, which is just over 5 weeks at one serving per day.
Both formats are designed to be finished well within the 8-week refrigerated window after opening.
Summary
- Unopened: store in a cool, dry cupboard. Shelf stable until the best-before date.
- Opened: refrigerate and use within 8 weeks.
- Freeze in portion sizes if you need longer.
- Use a clean spoon each time and trust your nose.
